How to Customize your Automag RT
One of the finest compressed air/nitrogen semi-autos in the
world
was introduced last year by Airgun Designs at the World Cup in Orlando, Florida.
Simply referred to as the "R/T", it operates at a lower pressure with a faster
"reactive trigger." In addition to the special trigger response, the R/T
will accept barrels made for the Automag and Minimag. Moreover, the standard
RT barrel comes equipped with two wire nubbins instead of one. Should you
decide to customize your RT, here are a few tips:
What air system to use?
The RT will perform well under most industry standard air systems (it is
not designed to work with C02), but I prefer to go with either the Air America
4500 (small tank) or the Falcon/Airpower 114 with a TASO drop forward. The
Air America 4500 system affords the player a system with all the "bells and
whistles" he or she could ever desire (built in on/off, stainless steel
construction, 4500 lb fills, lifetime warranty, etc), while the Falcon/Airpower
114 is the bargain hunter's ultimate utopia. It is usually priced under $300
and will shoot over 1000 paintballs per tank fill.
What barrel to use?
Without a doubt, the stainless barrels made by J&J and other companies
(a la DYE and Smart Parts) have become the hottest ticket in town. I like
the 12-inch twist drilled stainless steel barrel from J&J Performance.
Some other modifications:
A. 45 grip frame from Benchmark. These are the best available.
B. Micro lines from Venom. These seem to hold up the best for the price.
Call Pursuit Marketing Inc. And ask for the distributor nearest you
(847.272.4765).
C. Anodizing by PK Metals in San Jose, California. These guys do some of
the best anodizing in the world. They charge a lot, but it is worth the price
and the wait. Just ask Bob Long, Smart Parts and the other industry giants
who have had their work done by PK.
Remember, your RT is designed for compressed air/nitrogen and not CO2. The
output to your RT from your air system is critical for optimum performance.
Good luck and see you in Orlando.
P.S. A special thought to Dave Cook (a.k.a. weasel) of my team (Bob Long's
Ironmen) and a speedy recovery.
