PCRI Product Evaluation

PMI's Trracer Tagmaster

DESCRIPTION:

The Trracer Tagmaster is about 19-inches in length and weighs 20-ounces. The receiver, and sight-rail are manufactured from aluminum. The trigger and internals are made from stainless steel, while the pump handle, trigger grip, and trigger housing are made from a very durable man-made carbon fiber material. The Tagmaster is similar to the Trracer (1992 "Pump-Gun of the Year") , but several improvements have been made.

The most obvious change is in the pump...the Tagmaster uses an 'undercocking' arm as opposed to the standard side-handle cocking method. The undercocking arm allows the receiver to be 'closed' to the bolt, keeping the internals free from dirt. An internal rod attached to the pump handle connects to a groove in the bolt. The Trracer Tagmaster incorporates 'friction' field strip screws to help keep from loosening during play.

ACCURACY:

PROCEDURE: With a securely bench-mounted gun, we fire 200+ rounds of paint (eight brands) at four target distances. At 100 & 125 feet, the target size is 22" x 22". At 75 & 50 feet, the target size is reduced to 8" x 11". All accuracy testing is performed indoors at 60 - 80 degrees (f). The gun is re-sighted at each target distance change. For this accuracy test we used RP Scherer (original), Marballizer, Zap Advantage, Nelson Precision, Proball, 68 ultra, Stinger, and Bullseye paint.

Below are the results of the accuracy bench-mount test.

VELOCITY CONSISTENCY:

The Tagmaster held it's velocity within 10 feet per second using both a regular (gas) and siphon C02 tanks (see chart this page).

MAINTENANCE OF VELOCITY:

This test shows a gun's ability to hold velocities during rapid fire situations.

1 shot 297 FPS

2 shots 294 FPS

3 shots 298 FPS

4 shots 301 FPS

5 shots 294 FPS

6 shots 294 FPS

10 shots 293 FPS

OBSERVATIONS:

In our original testing of the Tagmaster back in January, we fired more than 5,000 and experienced no ball breaks. In shooting more than 8,000 rounds during the accuracy test for this issue, we encountered only one ball break. The Tagmaster has the smoothest pump stroke, the best maintenance of velocity, velocity consistency, and was second to the Sniper III in overall accuracy. Other features of the Tagmaster include great cold weather performance, excellent C02 efficiency (about 500 shots from a 7-ounce tank), quick field strip ability, short trigger pull, and it's overall user-friendly amenities.

The PMI Trracer Tagmaster is an outstanding pump-gun...the best we have seen to date. The Tagmaster's feature-to-dollar ratio is the best available. The Tagmaster will give you tournament performance at a field rental price. That's why we picked the PMI Trracer Tagmaster as "Pump-gun of the Year" for 1994.
