Shocker Paintgun
The Shocker is manufactured by PneuVentures Inc., and distributed exclusively
by Smart Parts of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. TheShocker is a closed bolt,
electro-pneumatic paintgun designed to operate on low pressure C02 or nitrogen.
Some of the many features of the Shocker are it's ability to operate on 150
psi, the gun includes a Smart Parts barrel, electronic trigger (double trigger),
45 grip frame with Hogue grips, on/off trigger switch, and a bottom-line
pressure regulator and gauge. The suggested retail price of the Shocker is
$695.00
Design/Construction:
The Shocker is twenty-two inches in length and weighs four pounds, eleven
ounces. Externally the Shocker is manufactured from aircraft grade aluminum
and is anodized black. A sight rail is machined into the main body. The on-gun
version of the Shocker (this is the one we tested) comes with a bottom-line
set-up which includes a pressure regulator. A high pressure hose runs from
the bottom-line to the gas distribution manifold located in the rear of the
gun.
The Shocker consists of two major assemblies--the body and grip assemblies.
The body assembly contains four subassemblies--the battery chamber, bolt
chamber, firing mechanism chamber, and gas distribution manifold.
The batteries are found in the lower left corner of the body assembly (four
AA batteries). The bolt is located in the upper center of the body and screws
into the rear end of the body. The lower right portion of the body assembly
houses the firing mechanism. Located just to the left of the firing mechanism
chamber is the gas distribution manifold. This is where the CO2 or nitrogen
is directed (to fire the ball, recock the gun, etc.). On the left side of
the main body you'll find an on/off switch. This is used as a safety--it
disables the firing mechanism.

Accuracy:
Procedure: With a securely bench mounted paintgun we fire 200+ rounds
of three different brands at four target distances. At 100 & 125 feet
the target size is reduced to 8" x 11". All accuracy testing is performed
indoors at temperatures of 60-80 degrees (F). For this test we used Proball,
RP Scherer Marballizer, and Zap Pro Series.
At a target distance of 125 feet, the Shocker hit the target at a ratio of
55% using Proball 57% with Marballizer, and 63% with Zap Pro- Series. At
100 feet the ratios improved to 80% for Proball, 73% for Marballizer, and
71%for Pro-Series.
At 75 feet the ratios were 71% for Proball, 75% for Marballizer, and 69%
for Zap Pro- Series (remember the target size is reduced to 8" x 11"). At
50 feet the ratios improved dramatically to 99% for Proball and RP Scherer
Marballizer, and 93% for Zap Pro-Series.

Observations: Out of the box the Shocker fired in the mid-280's (feet
per second). All velocity adjusting is done through the pressure regulator--there
is no adjuster on the gun itself. Of the 5500+ shots fired during testing
the Shocker we encountered only one ball break and no other operating problems.

Performance tests:
We fired around 3300 rounds field testing the Shocker and found it to shoot
very consistently, and accurately. Although the rate of fire is adjustable,
the stock Shocker does not allow the user to fire quite as fast as the Automag
or Autococker (out of the box). We have shot a Shocker that had a customized
trigger which allowed for super fast firing. The Shocker is extremely
quiet--probably quieter than any other stock semi-auto we have seen. This
can be attributed to the very low pressure that the
gun operates on, and the drilled barrel that comes with the gun. Cold weather
performance with the Shocker will be very good, again due to the low pressure
operation. Another excellent feature of the Shocker is its gas-efficiency.
We got 1550 shots from a twenty-once CO2 tank.
On the down side, the Shocker does not handle liquid CO2 well. Using a
twenty-ounce tank will give you much better performance than a nine or
twelve-ounce tank.
Velocity Consistency: All velocity consistency testing was done using
CO2. Read from left to right.

Versatility:
The Shocker comes with many features that would be extras on most guns--pressure
regulator, Smart Parts drilled barrel, Hogue grips, etc. The Shocker is versatile
in that the trigger is adjustable, CO2 or high pressure can be used with
the gun, and the Shocker comes set up for remote or on-gun. Since the Shocker
is fairly new (about a year old) there are not as many add-ons available
as compared with other guns.

Maintenance:
Cleaning a broken ball in the barrel or breach is done by simply unscrewing
the bolt (it takes about five full rotations). Be careful not to cross-thread
the bolt plug threads. Every few times to the paintball field you should
remove the bolt and lube and inspect the o-rings. Also, every couple of months
the internals should be inspected, cleaned, and reinstalled. This preventative
maintenance will save you time and money in the future.

Price:
At $695.00 retail, the Shocker is one of the more expensive out of the box
paintguns available, although some guns cost much more. Without a doubt,
the Shocker is a very good value--At $695, the gun is virtually tournament
ready.

Conclusion:
The Shocker is a well made paintgun that will give you the performance of
guns costing more. Smart Parts, the Shocker's distributor is a long time
member of the Paintball industry with an excellent reputation for customer
service. If you're in the market for a tournament paintgun, give this one
a look.
PCRI IS PLEASED TO AWARD THE SHOCKER OUR THREE STAR SEAL OF QUALITY.
2nd Runner-Up, Paintgun of the Year
Explanation of rating: The Shocker is a very accurate gun and it's super
quiet. The only drawbacks to the gun are the trigger pull and the versatility
of the gun. Since this evaluation the Shocker has been redesigned and is
now being called the "Shocker Sport."
