Evaluation
JT Spectra System
Goggles
Back in June of 1994, we evaluated the Spectra 260 System from JT Paintball
and awarded it our Three Star Seal of Quality. Since that time, the Spectra
System has be updated to include full ear protection. In addition, the Spectra
System's price has been reduced by about $10 to $79.95.
Description:
The Spectra System is manufactured from several very durable materials. The
mask is made from a semi-rigid, impact resistant plastic that attaches to
the goggle frame with four 'bayonet' locking lugs. The goggle lens, manufactured
from .100 Lexan is attached to the goggle frame with five 't-lugs'. The visor
(included) connects to the goggle frame with three large bayonet lugs. The
new 'pro-shield' ear protection is manufactured from a durable 1/4-inch foam
and is attached to goggle frame using a plastic rivet. The Spectra System
has a 1-1/2" goggle strap that is size adjustable. Soft foam is used as a
buffer between the plastic mask/goggle and the users face. The Spectra System
is one of the more comfortable goggle systems.
Protection:
The Spectra 260's provide excellent protection to the eyes, nose, temples,
face, chin, and ears. We shot this system from every possible angle at 350+
feet per second and only tiny paint fragments entered the eye compartment.
No part of the system was damaged during testing.
Conclusion:
The JT Spectra System's protection has been improved dramatically since June
of last year. The system now provides excellent protection in all important
areas of the head. The vent holes in the top and bottom of the goggle frame
provide for relatively 'fog-free' use. The visor is the best we've seen.
The mask detaches easily for cleaning, yet holds together when shot at high
velocities. The Spectra thermal goggle system is an outstanding product and
a very good value.
PCRI is pleased to award the Spectra 260 goggle System our FOUR STAR SEAL
