PCRI Product Evaluation

Ruff & Tuff Versa Cradle

The Versa Cradle, manufactured by Ruff and Tuff Sports is designed to be used to mount your high pressure system in the bottom-line position of your Automag or Autococker. The Versa Cradle is available for most nitrogen/high pressure systems. For this evaluation we used the Apocalypse Versa Cradle. Retail prices for the Versa Cradle are $69.95-75.00 depending on which system you have and which finish you choose.

Design/Construction:

The three-piece Versa Cradle is manufactured from aluminum and weighs about five ounces (Apocalypse version). The unit is available in "high polish" or anodized black. The upper component mounts directly to the bottom of your gun's grip. The middle component slides onto the upper piece and is tightened down using the provided thumb-screw. The lower component attaches to the Apocalypse mounting bracket and middle component with two allen screws.

The Versa Cradle is designed to allow the user to mount the high pressure system off-center, and either on the left or right side. This gives you room for your arm without resting it on the tank. The thumb screw and upper component (rail) allow you mount the tank as far forward or rearward as you like. This comes in handy if you use more than one size tank. The Versa Cradle is very well made.

Performance/Versatility:

As we stated earlier, the Versa Cradle mounts on either the left or right side, and in the forward or rearward position. This gives you a lot of versatility. Also, the Versa Cradle is manufactured for virtually all of the different high pressure systems. Ruff N Tuff Sports also manufacturers a host of other high pressure accessories that will work with the Versa Cradle.

From a performance perspective, the Versa Cradle allows you to set your gun up for your bottle size. This will give you a more comfortable gun set up and may enhance your shooting ability. The only draw-back we have seen with the Versa Cradle is that the thumb screw loosens up during play occasionally. A hex head would allow you to "torque" the allen screw down tighter, but wouldn't be quite as user friendly.

Price:

At about $70 retail, the Versa Cradle is one of the more expensive cradles on the market. However, this one gives you more for the money than any other cradle we've seen.

Conclusion:

The Versa Cradle is a nicely designed product that is very versatile. But you pay for the versatility. You may or may not need a cradle that has this many features, but if you do, this one is probably for you.
